What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a peaceful, gentle, healing energy that promotes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. The word Reiki can be understood to mean spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki is a special vibration of life force energy that is guided by a wisdom that works in harmony with a person's highest good.
Reiki can cause no harm. It works harmoniously with all therapies, including mainstream and experimental medical treatments, enhancing the benefits and minimizing the side effects of prescriptions, chemotherapy and radiation. As such, it can be thought to be pure complementary therapy.
Reiki is always performed on a fully clothed person in a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. A Reiki treatment, or Reiki session, usually takes an hour as the practitioner gently places hands in a variety of locations. There are no invasive hand positions because Reiki can be transmitted from a slight distance whenever necessary. Most people experience the subtle, harmonizing energy of Reiki as a soothing, nurturing warmth that flows from the practitioner's hands. They become aware of the places where the energy flow is stronger and the hands seem to feel warmer. As blocks are released, the person enters a deeper, more blissful, state of well-being and becomes more aware of a connection with all of creation.
A student receives an energetic empowerment, called an attunement, from a Reiki teacher, that enables the student to connect to the source of Reiki and to channel it through the hands and energy field. After taking the first class, a student is able to do Reiki on themselves and others, as well as animals and plants. Reiki was developed in 1922, by Mikao Usui, a simple Buddhist, who first experienced the energy during a moment of spiritual awakening. It was his wish that the practice of Reiki would one day spread all over the world, helping to heal not only the people, but also the earth itself. Used by millions of people around the globe, Reiki has become the most familiar and the most frequently applied individual healing technique in the world today!
